DRAWING CLASS - Traditional Drawing Techniqes
Instructor: Maria J. Smith
Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM
The student will work from life to experience first-hand the effects of light and perceptual reality, thereby learning to think and see as an artist. Working in graphite and Conté on white and toned paper, the student will gain skill and understanding in drawing techniques and principles such as block-in, gesture, line, shape, contour, value, texture, volume, space, understanding light and shadow, and drawing form on the inside.
Classes are small. Drawing students are taught one-on-one, and learn to draw at their own pace. This Drawing Class is an ongoing class.

OIL PAINTING CLASS - Classical & Contemporary Realism
Instructor: Maria J. Smith
Wednesdays 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Saturdays 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM
Saturdays 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Learn to understand and apply the great principles of art and techniques of oil painting. Over time, the student will learn about the creative process, Right Brain (Intuitive) and Left Brain (Intellectual) thinking, concepts, composition, imprimatura, underpainting, tonal painting, indirect painting, alla prima painting, chiaroscuro, glazing and impasto techniques, scumbling, sfumato, velatura, understanding and using color, space, movement, light, shade, and atmosphere as well as use of various mediums and supports, ultimately leading to mastery of the medium, regardless of the subject matter.
Classes are small. Painting students are taught one-on-one, and learn to paint in oils at their own pace. The Oil Painting Class is an ongoing class.

About Our Ongoing Classes
|
Drawing and Oil Painting classes are limited to 8 students per class. Students must be at least 16 years old, be committed to the program, and are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Tuition of $20 per lesson is payable on or before the start of each class.
